Core Values of Downtown Church

These are the values we strive for together, as a church family, by the grace of God.

God-centered Worship:

  • Treasuring the glory of God in all areas of life.

  • Praising God through passionate music that blends old and new.

  • Praying together to express hope in God.

  • Emphasizing member participation in corporate worship.

  • Welcoming the presence of God’s Spirit.

Honoring God’s word:

  • Striving to be Biblically faithful and theologically rich.

  • Preaching/teaching that is expository, relevant and interesting.

  • Encouraging members to read the Bible.

  • Obeying what the Bible commands, while being humble where it is silent.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ:

  • Exalting in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior over all.

  • Trusting in the cross and resurrection for forgiveness and eternal life.

  • Living out the gospel through a changing life.

  • Proclaiming the gospel to all peoples through word and deed.

Life Together:

  • Pursuing authentic relationships of love and encouragement.

  • Sharing resources (time, spiritual gifts, talents and money) with each other.

  • Striving for unity through humility, forgiveness and honest communication.

  • Majoring on the majors and being gracious on secondary issues.

  • Valuing family and friendship, children and elder generation, the sick and lonely.

  • Teaching on man/ womanhood, marriage/singleness, parenting and leadership.

Organic Discipleship:

  • Growing in our love for God and others through God’s word and prayer.

  • Depending on the Spirit’s power to follow Christ and fight sin.

  • Seeking to be mentored and to mentor someone else in the faith.

  • Holding each other accountable with grace and truth.

  • Encouraging intimate fellowship through small group Bible studies.

Cross-cultural Ministry:

  • Welcoming visitors to our worship services and into our homes.

  • Thinking of practical ways to serve our neighbors, community and world.

  • Fighting for justice and peace for the poor, weak and suffering among us.

  • Reaching unreached peoples by supporting missionaries.

  • Encouraging short-term mission trips to give us a global perspective.

Missional Lifestyle:

  • Seeing all life as ministry and using spheres of influence (work, school, etc.).

  • Valuing relationships over structures, buildings, programs and numbers.

  • Recognizing all members as priests, preachers and ministers.

  • Living purposefully with relationships, time and money.

  • Enjoying our freedoms in Christ, while respecting other’s convictions and traditions.
